Provide strategic advice, review major proposals, advocate externally, validate roadmaps, and help shape policy (ethics, regulation, sustainability).
To what extent should the SAB be involved in daily work/planning?
The Stakeholder Advisory Board (SAB) provides high-level strategic advice, not daily operational management. However, SAB members can take active roles in shaping CPs or policy discussions if they wish (areas of “enhanced engagement”).
What is the Great Council?
The Great Council (GC) is BioBlock’s community decision body and consists of all active members of the community. It votes on funding, major platform changes, and policy. Membership/voting weight can be structured by roles (contributors, institutional partners, token holders) — rules set in the governance charter. It’s inspired by blockchain governance ideas like openness and transparency, but in practice it’s a hybrid model: structured dialogue, documented decisions, and sometimes blockchain-based tools to make things traceable.
What form of governance is used in BioBlock?
Hybrid web3 governance model: MT (Management Team) for operations, SAB (Stakeholder Advisory Board) for strategic guidance, Great Council for democratic decisions. Smart contracts automate governance actions where possible; a governance charter defines processes, quorums and escalation.
Can financial compensation be provided for reviewing processes or participation in events?
For now, these activities are voluntary. We do know expert time is valuable, so we’re looking into ways to acknowledge contributions in the future - this will range from honoraria to token-based recognition. Input from SAB members will also guide how we shape this.
How should I understand the expression “areas of enhanced engagement and increased visibility”?
This refers to the opportunity for SAB members to take on a more prominent role in specific domains where they have expertise or strong interest. In detail, “enhanced engagement” means closer involvement in thematic projects, workshops, or working groups and “increased visibility” refers to public recognition (e.g., presenting at BioBlock events, being featured in consortium communications, or shaping thought leadership pieces). This way our SAB members can both contribute more deeply and gain visibility as trusted voices in the ecosystem.
What does “participation in community projects” entail in practical terms?
Participation in community projects is very flexible. It can mean reviewing proposals, giving mentoring input, helping a team navigate challenges, or active participation in a community project. Always in a way that fits your availability and expertise. Note: funder rules (PtJ) may limit partner eligibility — partners typically must pass minimum budget or contribution thresholds.
Can non-German organizations be funded?
No, only Germany-based institutions are eligible for direct funding. Non-German organizations can participate financially only as subcontractors.
Can proposals be submitted in English?
Yes and no — BioBlock accepts English proposals for the first decision process to be inclusive. However, specific funder rules (PtJ or national agencies) require German language and local partner involvement.
